March 31 – Easter Sunday

Read: Matthew 28:1-10, Psalm 2, and Psalm 110

If the story of Jesus ended with him being crucified, dead and buried, that would be no good news at all. It is the fact of his historical, bodily resurrection that makes all of this good news. Christ the King conquers sin, death and Satan, the power of the grave is broken and in him are the first fruits of the New Creation that is to come. The injustice of his suffering, his innocence in every respect, his identity as the Christ, all vindicated on the third day. Truly, there will now come a day when all will see the Son of Man, all glorious, seated at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven. God’s anointed is seated at his right hand, and all creation is his footstool. Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Reflection:

Why is the resurrection sometimes forgotten, even though it is so critical to the gospel?

How does Jesus being alive right now give you hope as you live today?
